For Distance course Admission, students can choose any course of their choice. Also, they have to complete an application procedure in online or offline mode. New Admission is not accepted by the university for all UG, PG, Diploma, and Certificate Courses through Distance and Online mode for the January academic session 2026. Indira Gandhi National Open University is the largest open university in the world. This university was founded in 1985 and now it provides more the 200+ courses in various departments.

Admission to Distance Education courses is determined by the marks obtained in the last qualifying examination. For certain courses like Ph.D. and BEd, the university conducts entrance exams for selection purposes. The academic year is split into semesters, and exams are held twice a year.

IGNOU Distance Education Eligibility Criteria

• The candidates must have the 10th and 12th mark sheets or an equivalent certificate from a recognized school with at least a 55% mark average.
• The students must have 55% or more (minimum in general), and 45% for SC/ST/OBC applicants to apply for the M.Phil degree program.
• For the Bachelor’s courses, the students should have 10th and 12th mark sheets with a transfer certificate and code of conduct certificate.

IGNOU Distance Education also offers Ph.D. and M.Phil. programs. The University offers 20 specializations and nine M.Phil specializations as well as a wide range of specializations for admission, for applicants to the Ph.D. program at Distance Education, a national entrance exam is conducted.

IGNOU Distance Education For PhD іn Jоurnаlіѕm

IGNOU PhD in Journalism is 3 years duration course that lasts 6 years. The eligibility criteria for a Doctoral degree in Journalism is a Master’s degree in Journalism & Mass Communication with 55% and an M.Phil from any recognized university or a Master’s degree with 55% marks in any subject wіth 5 years experience in Media Industry/Teaching/Research in Mаѕѕ Cоmmunісаtіоn.

IGNOU Distance Education For B.Ed Courses

For bed admission, students need to clear a bachelor’s or master’s in Science, Commerce, humanity, and social science, and graduation should be completed in technology and engineering with 55 percent marks and specialization in mathematics and science. The reservation Students (SC, ST, PWD)can get a 5% relaxation in marks according to the university rules and norms also applicants are required to pass the entrance exam, which is conducted twice a year by the IGNOU Distance Education department to be considered for admission into the program. A candidate’s admit card for the entrance examination can be downloaded from the university’s official website at any time.

This examination is conducted every year during January in each year during the time of the exam.

IGNOU  Distance Education Management Courses 

For IGNOU Distance Education admission in MBA, DIM, PGDIM, and PG Diplomas in HRM, FM, OM, MM, and FMP. Earlier to get considered for the IGNOU MBA, PGDIM, and other management courses, candidates need to clear the entrance exam which is conducted by the IGNOU university at the National level. 1. Visit the official website and click on the online IGNOU Distance Education admission system portal.
2. The candidate signs up for account creation and fills in the required details carefully. The username is between 8 to 16 characters and the password is also 8 to 16 characters.
3. After the login open the application form and fill the all required information. Needs to fill in the qualification details, correspondence details, and course details.
4. At the form submission time candidate needs to attach all required documents like a Scanned Photograph (less than 100 KB in size), Scanned Copy of Experience Certificate, Scanned Signature (less than 100 KB in size), Scanned copy of Age Proof, Scanned copy of relevant Educational Qualification, Scanned Copy of Category Certificate, if SC/ST/ OBC, Scanned Copy of BPL Certificate, if Below Poverty Line.
5. After the documents candidate will pay the application fee online mode.
6. After the successful payment candidate can take the printout of the application form and fee submission for future use.
